Roll Cage

What in the name of all sanity
is this, might we ask?
Roll Cage may not look like much, but actually there is a lot of detail in this little open
frame vehicle. At first glance, it looks like a chassis with a bunch of roll bars
attached, but a closer look reveals much more.
To start, because of its open design, the model is chocked full of detail both above and below.
The simulated diamond tread stamped plating is prevalent throughout the model. The chassis
is zinc-plated metal, and includes a detailed front bumper. The body is die-cast also,
painted in yellow enamel, and mostly consists of a series of roll bar pipes, except for an area
in the front. The interior is formed mostly from a black plastic piece that contains two
seats with safety belts and a moderately detailed dashboard. Four half-circular gauges can
be seen centered on the top of the dash. There also is a chromed plastic insert that contains
a number of features, including the motor, gar task, front air scoop, inside floor, center console
shift lever and the dual struts behind all four wheels. A spare tire sits on the rear platform,
molded and chromed to match the functional wheels on the vehicle, which are large construction-type
tires on tri-blade hubs. The car was manufactured in Malaysia.
I like this little vehicle, mostly because the kids will like it. It has a low center of
gravity, good weight distribution and rides high enough above the ground to perform well on all
of the track sets. The axles have a lot a floating room, so they should be able to withstand
some rough play without bending. Regrettably, the Roll Cage already is scheduled as the
February entry in the 2001 Treasure Hunt Series. Since it's not your normal "glamour" vehicle,
I don't think this version will be hoarded in the usual quantities, so people should be able to
find it before too long.
