1999 First Editions #24
Baby Boomer

This customized blown-motor
baby stroller may end up as the most sought after First Editions car this year behind the
Chevelle. Amazingly, I acquired a 2000 FE before I could secure a Baby Boomer.
I actually had the opportunity to acquire one at a toy show. I picked up the 2000 FE from a
dealer for the trade of a regular car.
When it came to the Boomer - at the same dealer's table - I didn't
feel like paying the incredible amount that was being asked for. So, I left it behind and, a
few days later, one of my trading buddies gave me one. For free. It pays to be
patient - even if you need one to review!
The Baby Boomer is one sweet little fantasy hot rod, with a metallic Hot Wheels
Blue carriage cover, a zinc-plated metal chassis, seat and push bar, and a chrome-plated and gray plastic
motor. The rattle-shaped steering column is part of the gray plastic motor. The
carriage interior includes a seat belt harness in the detail. The headlights are in the form of
two old-style baby bottles.
A pleasant surprise was that the carriage section is metal, making this nearly an
all-metal vehicle. This car easily is the wildest design of the year - not nearly as
outlandish as last year's Hot Seat, but wild regardless. Ironically, this was one
of the First Editions postponed from last year. The car rides on small five spokes up front,
large five spokes in back, and is manufactured in Malaysia.
The Baby Boomer is nifty, and it's only a matter of time before a pink version surfaces.
While it's still difficult to find, no one has reported any variations to date, so eventually everyone
should be able to find one.
