1999 First Editions #8
Semi-Fast

This concept model of a
tractor truck cab isn't one of my favorites, but the regular-run model looks MUCH better
than the picture of the pilot model on the poster. The Semi-Fast is the
second concept car in the 1999 First Editions line to be released.
The body is made of red plastic and appears to be a combination of two parts, with the
upper cab being a separate piece. The metal chassis has details both on the underside,
and engine detail inside, where the chassis is visible through openings in the body.
The upper engine components and interior are one plastic piece molded in gray.
The cab interior consists of a single seat and steering wheel centered in the compartment,
surrounded by various instruments and equipment. This is difficult to see through the
smoke-tinted wrap-around windshield. The front grill is part of the chassis.
Graphics are tamped in black, yellow and white. The vehicle rides on the standard
medium and large sized five-spoke wheels, and is manufactured in Malaysia.
I don't like the fact that the car is plastic, but the center of gravity is low due to the
die-cast chassis, so the car should perform well and stay durable for the kids to play with.
From a collector's standpoint however, I'll just wait for the next car to come along.
