1998 First Editions #10
Dairy Delivery

My, oh my.
This is one hot milk truck. Dairy Delivery is one of the latest of the 1998
First Editions to be released, and this one was worth the wait, or more accurately,
worth the
"weight" -- this is a weighty piece, larger in size than the 1996 FE VW Bus yet
not quite as heavy, due to the presence of a plastic chassis.
The Malaysian-made model is based on a mid-century milk truck that has been lowered and
raked. The hefty metal body is painted in pearl white and carries teal, pink and navy
graphics on the sides.
The chassis is molded in gray plastic, but it is thick and solid, a
necessity to carry the heavy load. This is a big plus, as the model rolls smoothly and
effortlessly for great distances. The interior is molded in light teal plastic, and
includes a high-backed driver's seat in front, and stacked milk bottles in back. Clear
plastic forms the windshield and rear door windows. Body and chassis detail are
excellent. The vehicle rides on large inboard five-spoke wheels in back. The sample I
photographed had small five-spokes in front, but all of the others I've seen have
medium-sized five-spokes up front. It is possible that the truck will be released in
both variations, but more likely is that mine is a factory error.
The Dairy Delivery is a winner. Mattel has stated they will be released in
large quantities, so everyone will have an opportunity to pick this one up before too
long.
