1997 First Editions #12
25th Anniversary
Lamborghini Countach

When
the 1997 First Editions were announced, I'm sure more than one person sighed "oh no,
not another Lamborghini" when viewing the last car on the list. I personally wondered why
another Countach was being tooled when there was already one in the current line. I
decided to take a "wait-and-see" stance. Well, the time has arrived, and the new
25th Anniversary Lamborghini Countach is starting to appear in stores.
The tooling on the new casting is good. The detail is crisp and more fine than the
original Countach. The body is painted in a beautiful yellow pearl, with no other
tampos. The chassis is black plastic and rides on small chrome Lamborghini-type
five-hole wheels. A small gold HW logo adorns a corner of the windshield. The clear
window glass and black plastic interior parts are "borrowed" from the old casting,
which diminishes the appearance slightly because the old window detail is not as fine
compared to the new body.
This is a nice casting, although there are some items of note. The positives include
the ommission of the spoiler-wing, and the use of small wheels all around, giving a
more "in-scale" appearance. Some negatives are the use of a plastic chassis, and the
utilization of the old glass part instead of tooling a new one. Also of note is that
the name on the underside of the chassis reads only "Countach." This leads one to
believe that the "25th Anniversary" prefix will be dropped eventually, and this casting
will replace the original Countach in the line.
