Way 2 Fast

1969
was the first year the customized Hot Wheels models of yesteryears' cars were issued,
with raked bodies, chromed exposed motors and racing slicks. Throughout the years Mattel
has released models of classic pre-1940 cars. Way 2 Fast is the first in a long
while to invoke the early HW designs.
This car could be considered the "big brother" of 1970's The Demon, with its
chopped top, dual exposed motors and oversized exhaust pipes. Its radiator is intact, a
la the 1969 Classic '31 Ford Woody and Classic '32 Ford Vicky. The
chassis/exhaust piece is unpainted cast metal, and the body, also cast metal, is painted
bright orange enamel. The dual motors, radiator face and one-seat interior are all one
piece of chrome-plated plastic. The outer radiator edge is molded in an orange plastic
that matches the body paint color. The car rides on medium five-spoke wheels up front,
and large five-spoke wheels in the rear. The roof sports a jazzy printed black-and-white
checkerboard pattern, with a small HW logo printed in red near the back.
This is one of the best concept cars that Mattel has made in a while, one that pays
homage to designs of the early Redline era of thirty years ago. This car, which
looks right at home either in its current rendition, or with Spectraflame paint and
redline tires, is a welcome addition to the HW line.
