On seeing the bright pink background on the table of contents Boardwalk
wrote, "Trish, wow that's a bright color!!!!!"
.
You betcha! The bright pink is in celebration of Kendra's birthday.
She is three and pink MUST be one of her favorite colors...at least I hope
so. ;-)
.
I think the bright pink color is indicative of some of the reasons
I collect die cast cars (among all the other toys, etc. I collect)...I
never grew up. While some may think that a disadvantage I disagree.
Life is more fun this way. When Dennis and I first got married and
lived closer to my family my sisters (who were eons younger at that point
in time) would visit as often as they could. I would spend two weeks
getting ready for their visits and they would spend those two weeks in
a sense of anticipation wondering what I would have planned for them.
I mean, where else could they go and get pink gravy and blue mashed potatoes?
Where else would they help make cakes with all the imaginable food colors
twirled inside the batter? Where else would they stay up as late
as they wanted eating popcorn and watching scary movies? (Scary movie
night is still a tradition when they come to visit. Now it also involves
air horns, water guns, etc., and my Mother is involved too.)
.
Strange family? Maybe. Fun family? Definitely.
But there is always one thing missing...April. April I fear, thinks
herself too mature for this kind of stuff. Don't get me wrong...she
is a fun person...in a grown up sort of way. She doesn't understand
the cars, Barbie's, fast food toys, etc. She is so busy being an
adult, going to school, being involved in campus activities, etc., that
she has no time for the childlike things in life. The things that
make us all smile with memories of childhoods past. She has set herself
a limit of getting a three year degree in two years and in keeping her
4.0 GPA. While I am very proud of her I can't help wishing she would
slow down and enjoy this time in her life with a more childlike attitude.
Some of us wait too long to do that.
.
The point of this perspective? Enjoy those toy cars, dolls, whatever
with your kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, mothers
and fathers. Don't neglect your adult responsibilities, but remember
that responsibilities are not all there is to life. Be responsible
and make those mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner, but make them pink
and blue. ;-) Trish
