The Olympic spirit
has hit Australia now. Nearly all the ads are Olympic specials or deals, and
lots of promotional stuff appearing. Even Mattel got in the act with Olympic
swimming Barbie, with arms that move. It's just a pity that if you actually put
this Barbie in the water, a great big dial hangs out of her back, to which you
wind up for the arms to move. Nothing really in the way of Olympic diecast,
apart from one Matchbox Relay Car, that is a grey version of the Holden
Commodore. We have been hearing rumours about Australia getting
Collectible sets, well these have finally been confirmed by one of our sales
rep, and we should start seeing these in the stores later in the year. Not a
huge amount of new cars, and especially a lack of Treasure Hunts this year.
Normally we get about 4 or 5 of the year's Treasure Hunts, and of the ones we do
get,
we usually can pick up at least half a dozen or more of each. This year
I have found one Sweet Sixteen II, and most other collectors have not done much
better. I wonder what's happening here, as we don't even see the
scalpers/dealers with any either. Though a couple of people are sending lots of
cars to the US for swaps of cars we don't get down here. Maybe this is where
they are going. We have seen the Hot Wheels Trading Cards at some of the
Card stores. One collector has already got them all, and they did seem pretty
good, just a pity all the pictures are pretty well the same as the Tomart's
rather than a new picture of the cars. Some of our local service stations
are selling a $10 phone card with an artist's rendering of Kyle Petty's race
car, you also get a 99' poster and a 99' FE car or basic collector number car.
.
One of the collectors here has found a FE #7 Chevy Pro Stock Truck
minus all the side tampos, and wanted everyone to know about it. So Scott here
is your 15 minutes of fame.
